WHEREAS there is a growing movement to ban the sale of bottled water in municipalities and educational institutions across Canada, evidenced by its wholesale ban in municipal facilities and schools in several cities as a response to the environmental impacts, and public resource profiteering of the industry; AND WHEREAS despite the bottled water industrys campaign to undermine faith in the quality of water provided by public purveyors, public drinking water in Canada remains amongst the highest quality in the world: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities petition the provincial and federal governments to immediately ban the sale of bottled water in all public buildings where safe drinking water is available from publicly purveyed systems.
