WHEREAS the Province recently announced a gas tax increase of 2.4 cents per litre on fuel which will be implemented on July 1, 2008 subject to approval by the legislature; AND WHEREAS the north currently pays a premium for fuel in comparison to southern British Columbia and this fuel tax increase will have a detrimental financial impact on Northern BC since many worksites are not located within city limits and alternate transportation is not available: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities be requested to petition the Province of BC to reconsider the allocation of this additional tax for residents living in northern andor remote communities.
