Public Smoking Ban

WHEREAS second-hand smoke has proven to be a health risk; AND WHEREAS Bill 10, Tobacco Sales Banning Tobacco and Smoking in Public Places and Schools Amendment Act, 2007 forbids a person from smoking tobacco or holding lighted tobacco in a public place or within a prescribed distance from a doorway, window or air intake of that place; AND WHEREAS Bill 10, 2007 does not specifically address patios attached to public places: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities request that the provincial government further amend the Act to prohibit smoking tobacco or holding lighted tobacco in a patio attached to a public place.
