Rural Police Financing Formula

WHEREAS the Province of BC has established a police financing model to recover costs for providing police services to rural areas, using a funding formula that is based on population and assessment; AND WHEREAS from time to time municipal boundary expansions occur, which has the effect of decreasing population and assessment in rural areas: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that UBCM petition the Province of BC to include a mechanism in its police financing model that ensures that regional districts contributions to rural policing costs are adjusted to reflect a decrease in population and assessment when municipal boundary expansions occur.
