WHEREAS a severe windstorm on February 4, 2006 caused significant localized flood damage in Delta, including damage to the dyke system, and climate change may cause sea levels to rise and result in more severe storms and larger storm surges; AND WHEREAS other local governments in British Columbia are faced with similar issues and concerns for their communities: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities request that the provincial and federal governments develop a funding and consultation mechanism to improve the level of flood protection in areas with deficient dykes and seawalls.
