WHEREAS the Solicitor General has confirmed to UBCM that the provincial government intends to implement a new police financing model in 2007; AND WHEREAS the Province intends to recover almost 30 million per year from rural areas and small communities under 5,000 population; AND WHEREAS rural areas and small communities populations appear to have received less than adequate policing under the old system: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities request that the Province allocate the 30 million annually into enhancing policing in the areas where it is collected and not divert it into general revenue.
