WHEREAS the provincial government used to have a program to assist local governments in operation and maintenance of dykes; AND WHEREAS the program has either not been funded or has been under-funded in recent years; AND WHEREAS dyking authorities have not had adequate funds to maintain or upgrade their dykes, which puts the public at risk: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities petition the provincial government for an adequate funding program to upgrade and maintain the provinces dyking system.
