WHEREAS the provincial government received, and subsequently distributed to the Health Authorities, additional funds from the federal government for capital projects and equipment; AND WHEREAS hospital districts are being requested to contribute their standard 40 share to the projects and equipment being funded by this transfer, resulting in an inequitable situation where the provincial 60 share is covered by the federal transfer but no off-setting revenue is available to hospital districts: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the provincial government be petitioned to reconsider the method of funding capital projects for which federal funding is available, so that both the Province and hospital districts benefit equally from such transfers.

Provincial Response

Ministry Of Health The Province has received funding for capital equipment from the federal government under the 2003 First Ministers Accord on Health Care Renewal and the 2004 First Ministers Meeting on the Future of Health Care. In accordance with these agreements, all of this funding has been allocated, through the Health Authorities, for the purchase of essential capital equipment that will enhance the quality of care for the public. Funding contributions from Regional Hospital Districts and other partners complement the federal funding and enable the health authorities to acquire more equipment than would otherwise be possible, and thereby further improve the quality of patient care in their communities.
