WHEREAS Regional Film Commissions, including the Northern BC Film Commission, are an integral component of attracting film and movie production companies to rural and northern communities; AND WHEREAS the film and movie industry has incredible growth potential in generating revenue and job opportunities in rural and northern BC: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities petition the provincial government to continue to maintain funding at last years level or increase funding for Regional Film Commissions in the years to come; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Province consult with all affected stakeholders, especially local government, before making any changes that would affect the funding or locations of Regional Film Commissions.
Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts The Province recognizes the significant economic impact movie production crews bring to British Columbia communities. In June, the BC Film Commission distributed 50 of the Regional Film Office funding to the five established regions. The Regional Film Office funding program is currently under review, and we expect to receive a recommendation later this fall.
