WHEREAS some Regional Health Authorities have been unable to achieve equitable access to health services and improved efficiency because the regions are too large and diverse to effectively administer; AND WHEREAS adequate communication and consultation with local communities, as well as accountability to local communities, remains unsatisfactory because of the regions size and lack of local representation on the Boards: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities petition the provincial government to realign the Health Authority boundaries to correspond to smaller Health Service Delivery Areas, which would result in a health care structure conducive to ensuring equitable access to cost-effective health care services.
