WHEREAS the motion picture industry in British Columbia generates significant spin-off economic activity and jobs and is now losing business to competing jurisdictions such as Ontario; AND WHEREAS the revenue generated by the current application of PST is far less than the revenue lost by productions moving to competing jurisdictions: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the provincial government harmonize the PST on film production with competing provincial jurisdictions; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the provincial government work more closely with the motion picture industry and municipalities in British Columbia to help keep this vital industry healthy; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities take up this issue and other motion picture production issues with the provincial government as they arise.
