Whereas there are pets who damage property andor inflict injury to personsother domestic animals and there is limited ability for these victims to seek financial retribution from the pet owner; And whereas a person who wishes to own a pet should be assuming all of the responsibility associated with pet ownership, including liability: Therefore be it resolved that the Province of British Columbia establish a Pet Owners Liability Act that deals with aggressive pets.

Ministry of Justice The Ministry of Justice appreciates the interest that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities has in ensuring that pet owners are responsible for damage caused by their pets. The Ministry is continually evaluating British Columbias civil liability framework. Ministry staff are engaging in work to review options regarding civil liability for damages caused by pets.
