Social Services

WHEREAS senior governments are recording record surpluses as a result of significant cuts to social services that our citizens expect as fundamental services to Canadian society; AND WHEREAS local governments being the government most accessible to our citizens, are obligated to carry out the social services that senior governments have abandoned; AND WHEREAS the City of Nanaimo has taken all reasonable steps within its powers to facilitate the creation of affordable housing for those on low or fixed incomes: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the provincial and federal governments work with local governments to create a province-wide funding program to support affordable housing initiatives.
