RCMP policing webinar

Publishing Date

On January 26, 2023 (9:00 - 11:00 am PST), the Province and UBCM will be hosting an RCMP policing webinar for BC local government representatives. Local government elected officials or staff members interested in attending the webinar are asked to RSVP to Bhar Sihota, UBCM Senior Policy Analyst.

The purpose of this webinar is to provide local governments who receive RCMP policing services in their jurisdictions with an overview of how policing is structured in British Columbia. The first half of the webinar will be devoted to the legal and governance structures that support contract policing

The second half of the webinar will focus on the role of the Local Government RCMP Contract Management Committee (LGCMC) and the ways in which it works to advocate for local government contract-related issues at the provincial and national levels. This section will include a discussion on how local governments can become more involved in the management of the Police Service Agreement, through participation in the LGCMC. The nomination process for new LGCMC members will be outlined in next week’s edition of The Compass.

There will also be an opportunity for webinar attendees to raise other RCMP policing issues impacting the broader UBCM membership.
