A new intake for the Next Generation 911 funding program has been confirmed. This intake is primarily intended to help establish 3-digit 911 dialing services in BC communities that currently rely on 10-digit emergency numbers, where appropriate connectivity exists. Applications will be accepted between September 14 and November 13, 2026.
There will be a 2027 intake for the FireSmart Community Funding and Supports. Program materials are now available. Eligible applicants may submit one application between October 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026.
The FireSmart Community Funding and Supports program is a valuable resource for communities across B.C., and helps support preventative work that reduces wildfire risk and builds local capacity before an emergency happens.

Funding streams under the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund have been confirmed for fall 2026 and winter 2027 and intakes open September 1. A webinar will be held on October 6 to explore the intakes.

As part of the Build Communities Strong Fund–Community Stream agreement, Canada, B.C. and UBCM agreed to continue strengthening local governments’ capacity to undertake asset management. This work is integral to building strong cities, communities and regions.

An announcement by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier David Eby provided general information on concepts to increase the supply of affordable homes and deliver housing-enabling infrastructure funding, but few details were shared.
The federal government is accepting applications for shovel-ready, Class C infrastructure projects that can begin before the end of 2026. Funding is being provided through the ‘Direct Delivery’ stream of the Build Canada Strong Fund (BCSF). This stream will provide $6 billion over 10 years across Canada – with $1 billion available in this first intake. Applications through the online portal must be submitted before July 15, 2026.
Funding will be unchanged for BC local governments, but the name of this regular allocation has been changed to the Build Communities Strong Fund–Community Stream.
What was the Canada Community-Building Fund has been integrated into the federal government’s Build Communities Strong Fund which has three national streams: Community Stream; Direct Delivery Stream; and Provincial/Territorial Stream.
