Whereas the amount of our working forest that can be harvested economically is constrained by reduced domestic demand and low prices for certain portions of the timber profile, resulting in loss of job opportunities and economic benefits to communities and the Province; And whereas international markets offer potential for improving the viability of uneconomic timber grades and stands, raising the value and simulating more active management of our forests: Therefore be it resolved that UBCM request that the provincial government develop a log export policy that will address these challenges and opportunities for realizing optimal management of, and benefits from, our public working forests.
