WHEREAS the Province of British Columbia is the only province to impose a provincial sales tax on process use of electric power by industrial customers; AND WHEREAS many pulp and paper mills are struggling to remain viable, particularly during this period of economic uncertainty; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the UBCM lobby the provincial government to amend the Social Service Tax Act to exempt industrial customers from provincial sales tax on the process use of electric power.
