WHEREAS the principle behind the Provinces intent to implement a Carbon Tax is valid, but the socio economic impacts to rural British Columbians will be inequitable in the proposals current form: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities appeal to the Province to better rationalize and apportion any provincial carbon tax regime to recognize the relative inability for many British Columbia communities to source lower cost, greener alternatives for transportation and heating, and be sensitive to the geographical, service level, and economic realities that are also greatly disparate across the province.
