BC Ferries - Parity Relative Fare Caps

WHEREAS communities served by the minor ferry routes are facing ever increasing hardships in direct relationship to continual fare increases; AND WHEREAS the ferries are an extension of the highway system and are essential to ensure tourism, economic development and sustainability of ferry dependent communities: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities request that the provincial government give minor ferry routes the same consideration it has given northern routes by paying the minor route fuel deferral costs; AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that BC Ferries capital costs be supported by general taxpayer funding as are the highways and the ferries which link British Columbias mainland communities.
