Proliferation of Private Liquor Stores

WHEREAS the number of private liquor stores is increasing in certain areas throughout the province; AND WHEREAS the siting of liquor stores must comply with the 500 metre rule, whereby new stores must not be located within 500 metres of an existing liquor retail establishment, in accordance with the Liquor Control and Licensing Regulation: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the provincial government be requested to restrict the number of private liquor stores by increasing the minimum distance between establishments from 0.5 km to 2 km.
