Childcare Funding

WHEREAS member communities in the North Central Municipal Association are experiencing increased economic activity in the resource sector, with an associated increased demand for labour that cannot be met when parents are unable to join the workforce due to a shortage of safe and reliable day-care; AND WHEREAS not for profit organizations, small businesses and co-op childcares cannot charge fees that are high enough to recoup service costs: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities call on the provincial and federal governments to establish adequate funding for early childhood development initiatives and childcare.
