Northern Cancer Clinic

WHEREAS almost half of all cancer patients in north-central British Columbia must be referred out of the region for treatment due to lack of radiation therapy facilities, resulting in major financial burden, extended separation from family and significant emotional stress for patients and family; AND WHEREAS this situation has resulted in some patients declining to take treatment, even when recommended by medical specialists: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities urge the provincial government to develop a full-treatment cancer clinic for north-central British Columbia as a matter of high priority.
