WHEREAS the provincial government created Health Authorities, governed by a government-appointed Board of Directors, to provide local health services across the province; AND WHEREAS some of the regions covered by these Authorities are so large that the decision making process does not necessarily reflect local needs, causing frustration for local governments: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities petition the Province of British Columbia to restructure the Northern Health Authority and any other large Health Authority into manageable geographical regions that provide for local accountability in the delivery of health services; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Province consider appointments from local city councils and regional boards to the Health Authority Boards and that revised Health Authorities be staffed with personnel within the existing administrative structure to ensure that resources are shared cooperatively.
