WHEREAS the City of Prince Rupert pays 180,000 annually for the Goods and Services Tax GST on purchases made by the City; AND WHEREAS the payment of GST creates revenue shortfalls that affect a citys ability to manage city services, which subsequently results in property tax increases: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities lobby the federal government to encourage the immediate and permanent elimination of GST payments by local governments, school districts, universities, public post-secondary institutions, and municipally owned societies and corporations.
