WHEREAS the RCMP in the West Kootenay Region do not have the resources to effectively address mid-level drug enforcement and other crime to the degree required; AND WHEREAS this type of criminal activity is on the rise in the region as larger jurisdictions increase the allocation of their resources to address crime in their constituencies; AND WHEREAS the West Kootenay division of the RCMP has requested funding from the Province to increase the complement of general investigative manpower in the region to make dealing with mid-level criminal activity a high priority among the regions detachments and in our communities, and to develop a regional, coordinated approach to address the current level of criminal activity: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities request additional police resources from the RCMP to address mid-level drug enforcement and other crime in the West Kootenay Region.
