North - South Highway Corridor

WHEREAS the economy of the lower Columbia River Valley is heavily dependent on commercial and tourist traffic to and from the United States through border crossings at Paterson and Waneta, BC; AND WHEREAS development of an upgraded low valley highway connection from Highway 395 in the US north of Spokane, WA to provincial Highways numbered 3, 3B, and 6 and ultimately to Highway 1, will greatly enhance the economy of the West Kootenay Region for generations to come: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of BC Municipalities support the development of a north-south highway corridor through the West Kootenay Region along the Columbia River through the Waneta border.
